Emergency Snack Pack

I always get asked, “what do you do when you travel or when you are on the go” and so today I decided to give you a snapshot of what I buy, prepare and pack with me mostly where ever I go. I do want to say that eating this way is a lifestyle, it’s not a fad or something that is forced. These days  it’s normal for me to dive into a mint/pineapple/spinach smoothie but don’t be fooled because just 5-6 years ago, I was downing 100 Calorie Oreo packs with the best of them. It has certainly been a journey 😉 

In this emergency snack pack I have the following “go to” items:

  • Orange (eat the WHOLE orange, full of fiber and Vitamin C found in the pith) 
  • Apple (I would use some almond/peanut butter on this apple to balance the naturally occurring sugars)
  • 2 hard boiled eggs (full of fat, 6 grams of protein each, and choline which oxygenates the brain)
  • Pistachios (so delish, my favorite one!)
  • Brazil nuts (3 a day is your daily dose of selenium!)
  • Chia seeds (to add to water or a drink)
  • Green Juice from Suja (Twelve Essentials is the only flavor I get because it only has 4 grams of sugar per serving)
  • Canned Sardines (23 grams of protein and tons of Omega 3’s)
  • Purely Elizabeth’s Granola (they use one of the best sweeteners out there in Coconut Palm Sugar which has over 17 amino acids and vitamins/minerals!)
  • Vega One a All In One Vanilla Chai Protein Shake
  • Vega Coconut Protein Bar (15 grams of protein- I save for a post workout treat)
  • Post workout energizer from Vega (I use this when I can’t get a smoothie/meal to tide me over)
  •  Aloha Green powders to add to drinks (any greens powder will do if you are in a bind)

You’ll notice that I have a great mix of variety, color, healthy fats and protein- not just sugar bombs. Remember, this isn’t my meal per say but rather what I use when I need something to tide me over until the next meal.
